A brief history
Homeopathy is a system of complementary medicine developed in 1796 by German physician Samuel Hahnemann. Its approach considers each person as a unique individual. Homeopathy has been a regulated health profession in Ontario since 2015.
The individual comes first
In homeopathic philosophy, the consultation considers physical symptoms alongside emotional wellbeing, lifestyle, and personal history. This individualised approach is sometimes called constitutional prescribing.
The principle of “like cures like”
Homeopathy is based on the belief that a substance which causes symptoms in a healthy person can, in a highly diluted preparation, address similar symptoms. These preparations are called potencies. This belief is not supported by reliable clinical evidence of effectiveness.
Making informed healthcare choices
Homeopathy is a complementary practice. There is no reliable evidence that it treats the conditions listed here. It should not replace evidence-based medical care, prescribed medication, vaccination, or urgent treatment. Discuss any complementary remedies with your healthcare provider.
Share any remedies you use with your other healthcare providers. Not all products labelled homeopathic are equally diluted or free of risks.
